Welcome to the Department of Community Medicine

 

   In 1991, Dr. Janghorbani (epidemiologist) was the first and only faculty member of the community medicine department at Kerman University of Medical Sciences. He provided the theoretical lessons related to community medicine for medical students with the support of some clinical faculty members and the faculty members of the School of Health. The community medicine clerkship course was provided by the health staff of the Health Center of Kerman District. Medical students were introduced to the infectious diseases department for Community medicine internships.
Then, Dr. Aliakbar Rouhani (Pediatrician) took over the management of the department and the following actions were taken with the support of Dr. Janghorbani.


1.  Determination of some educational field for community medicine clerkship and internship in rural health centers and health houses in Kerman, Zarand, Bardsir, and Sirjan counties and providing educational courses for the health personnel involved in the education processes.
2. Equipping the field for the accommodation of medical students.
3. Attracting new faculty members
4. Obtaining an independent budget
5. Quantitative and qualitative development of the department with the cooperation of new members
6. Teaching-learning process  in the determined field by the faculty members of the community medicine department

 

Despite the shortcomings, the community medicine department, in addition to its responsibility in the education for medical students, also undertook MPH training for family physicians. Meanwhile, the faculty members of the community medicine department have had an effective presence in the leadership and management of Kerman University of Medical Sciences which continues. Currently, the department is managed by Dr. Habibeh Ahmadipour (Community Medicine).


Mission:

 

Department of community medicine is responsible for promoting a healthy human approach and comprehensive health, institutionalizing primary health care strategies at the community, family, and individual levels. Also, this department is responsible for promoting the family physician, referral system, and social determinants of health in the population covered by medical universities.

 

Goals:

 

• Educating medical students in basic sciences, physiopathology, internships, and internships to get acquainted with the principles of providing health services at the community level with emphasis on primary care and different levels of prevention
• Educating medical students to design and conduct applied studies in the health system to solve community health problems
• Educating medical students to get acquainted with the principles of health services management in comprehensive health service centers
•  Training family physician to provide community-based health service
•  Providing consultation in the field of designing community-based applied studies
