I. Pre-university English 1: A three-credit course for freshmen of different fields who have not achieved sufficient scores on the university placement test, held on the week after the students’ entering the university. In this course, students are introduced to the 4 skills basically, while getting familiar with the basic rules of English grammar and improving their English vocabulary through working on simple English reading comprehension texts.

 

II. Pre-university English 2: A 3-credit course for freshmen of different fields who have achieved a better score on the university placement test or those who have already passed Pre-university English 1. In this course, students continue with getting more proficient in the English language skills to get ready for attending general English and specialized English courses in the following semesters.
 

III. General English: A two-credit course taken by all the students of various disciplines who have either achieved the highest scores on the university entrants’ placement test, or have already passed pre-university English courses 1 and 2, usually in the first or third semester of their study. In this course students will improve all four skills in addition to intermediate grammar with a focus on reading and comprehending intermediate to advanced medical texts.
 

IV. Specialized English: Depending on the field of study, the specialized English course is either a two-credit, 2 two-credit or two three-credit courses taken in two consecutive semesters, commonly starting from the second semester onward. The focus in every field of study will be on familiarizing students with specialized scientific texts and improvement of medical terminology based on Latin and Greek etymology and the use of specialized language in a variety of clinical and academic contexts.

V. Elective English Courses: These are some two-credit courses offered on the students’ request, depending on university resources. One such course is the two-credit Medical Academic Writing course, which focuses on writing academic papers in the field of medicine.
 

- Mathematics:

The purpose of offering mathematics courses for the students of different disciplines at medical university is to increase the analytical ability of students and helping them to get able to apply the concepts of this course to the other related and specialized fields. Some of these courses are Calculus I, Calculus II, Mathematics and Computation in Pharmaceutics plus Differential Equations and Basic Mathematics.

 

- Psychology:

Courses related to the field of psychology, including Health Psychology, Life Skills, General Psychology, Principles of Psychology and counseling, Psychology and communication skills plus Individual and Social psychology are offered to the students of Kerman University by the General Education faculty members specialized in psychology disciplines.
